This book traces the thought of the German philosopher Karl Jaspers, from his early writings as a young psychiatrist to his mature thinking as an existentialist. The search for self-understanding is analysed, revealing the difficulties that emerge out of this search and the attempts to solve them by adopting a philosophical attitude towards the entire Being outside of the self-existence, world and transcendence.
