French Jewry, one of the largest Diaspora communities, has undergone many changes in modern times, including demographic change. The fascinating face of Judaism is examined in three sections in this collection: history, culture and Jewish thought. The articles explore struggles and transformations, including transformations in religious meaning, the struggle between the Jewish national affinity and universalism, the rabbinic Zionist leadership and the contribution of the Parisian School of Jewish thought. The anthology is based on lectures given at an international conference on this subject held by the Dahan Center, Bar-Ilan University.
