The Philosophy of Rabbi J. B. Soloveitchik
Prayer as Experience
Dov Schwartz

This book, the third in the series written by Prof. Dov Schwartz dealing with the thought of Rav Soloveitchik, is devoted to an analysis of the Rav’s essays on prayer. The Rav approached prayer in both phenomenological and existential terms. Experience of prayer leads the religious consciousness from an existential crisis to the adherence to the divine. His reflections and uncertainties regarding prayer prompted the Rav to strive towards new insights and horizons. The focus of discussion in this volume is a systematic reading of the Rav’s essays that deal with the consciousness of prayer. The first part of the volume analyzes his essay "Worship of the Heart", and the second part – his "Thoughts on Prayer" and other articles.
