This book deals with the theological and practical spheres of religious Zionism at the time of the founding of the state of Israel and in its early years. The book examines, on the one hand, the consciousness of the miracle and theological breakthrough in the establishment of the state, and on the other, the reactions of religious Zionism to the issues that concerned daily life. The book describes how solemn sentiments of providence, redemption, and righteousness were mixed with feelings of frustration, persecution, and anxiety in the face of religious Zionism's position as a minority in politics, education, and society in the face of an intensification of secular dominance. The book presents a multidisciplinary analysis of the foundations of religious Zionist consciousness and its patterns of activity throughout challenging years.

Prof. Dov Schwartz serves as Head of the Department of Philosophy at Bar-Ilan University.
