That is, he opened the door of his study in front of him, read texts to him, and Bialik was asked for an opinion, Peretz had full confidence in his taste and literary senses. This is how the Hebrew poet became a witness to the creative life of the rival prince. He felt so confident in him that he revealed to him some of his creative plans - something that no one, except perhaps a few associates, had been told in his secrets."

In this three-chapter essay, Miron reveals the connections of the work of four of the main modern Jewish artists: Haim-Nachman Bialik, Yitzhak Libush Peretz, Shaul Tchernichovsky and Uri-Zvi Greenberg. Miron traces here the reading of a writer in the writings of another contemporary writer, and lays down the principles of indirect textual literacy: reading in the eyes of another. In doing so, he once again makes the voice of Hebrew and Yiddish poetry, on the centenary of about a century since its writing: What is the aesthetic legacy left by the drafters of modern Hebrew literary expression? And is it still possible to enter the gates of their creation?

The book is accompanied by an introduction by Lilah Nethanel, which deals with the emotional initiation offered by modern Jewish literature to contemporary readers, and the incarnation of this initiation among later readers.
