The Essayistic Choice
Selected Essays from Odot
Edited by: Lilach Nethanel

"The essay seeks to come out of the conversation between an individual and himself, to reproduce the pleasure of reading and ponder its meanings out of a request for intimacy. Therefore, the essay, perhaps more than any other 'mediated' text, enables that private-public space of the culture of writing, a space that Hebrew literature has so much difficulty staying within." This book presents a selection of Israeli essays, which appeared in the online journal Odot between the years 2016-2021, and have not yet been printed. The essays collected here make up an elaborate and diverse base of the art of essay writing in Hebrew today. The book is prefaced by Anat Weissman and Lilach Nathaniel, with an introduction about the genre of the essay and its occurrences in Hebrew literature, as a right to reflection and a request for friendship.
