The Ze'ev Jabotinsky Prize for Literature and Research, 1997 Examines the history of the deportation from Palestine of several hundred members of Irgun Zeva'i Leumi (Etzel) and Lohamei Herut Yisrael (Lehi), and their detention in British camps in Eritrea, Sudan and Kenya in 1944-1948. Using documents from the British Public Record Office and lsraeli archives, the study deals with the judicial and legal aspects of the exile and detention, the wanderings of the detainees through Africa, their escapes from the camps and the delaying of their return to Palestine.
